Crestet / Vaison-la-Romaine

    CRESTET

Its history starts with the building in the 9th century of a fortress, constructed on top of a rocky hill, overlooking the Ouvèze valley and -of course- Mt. Ventoux. Today the little village is one of the best preserved "villages perchés" of the Vaucluse. From "La Fontaine de Charambaud", you can climb the meandering Route de St Anne to Crestet, and reach the central square at the foot of the chateau in twenty minutes. You can roam along the paved alleyways, discover the ancient fountain or enter the ancient little church of St Sauveur. Crestet is also the start of many hiking treks into the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, a mountain area famous for its vertical mountain ridges, its mosaic of vineyards and orchards and its dense forests (foto bottom).
